Pudiflor was captured from the South American wild in March 2003 and the people who cought her as a small kitten probably killed her mother as she would have defended her baby till death. They tried to sell the 2 week old kitten
as a pet, but as ocelots are protected animals, she was confiscated.

Ocelots are no pets and they will NEVER become one. They will tear down the house, and you, and leave very bad odours everywhere they go. They will also always feel the urge to seek freedom and run away from wherever they are. So Pudiflor was always restrained and as she is born with this very strong urge to hunt, her life was not lived the way it was meant to ... Pudiflor died of the FIP virus on March 3rd, 2006 and did not reach the age of 3, on March 8th, 2006.
Except for being captured for the illegal pet trade, ocelots are now also being killed by farmers who see them as threathening to their livestocks. But ocelots live mostly on small prey (mouse, birds etc) and need to be protected from further harm from farmers and urban developments.
